Solid Tent

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I haven't had the opportunity to use this other than one weekend trip and a week-long climbing trip, but I have so far been quite impressed. The set-up is plenty quick and easy. It's spacious for a two person, with enough headroom to not feel claustrophobic if you have to hide out in it for a day. The high proportion of mesh is nice for warmer nights, and the rain fly is very effective in the moderate rain I have used it in thus far. The two entrances are my favorite feature, as they make it easy for two people to share without getting in each other's way. The two medium-sized vestibules are big enough for a moderate pack and my shoes. When I used it solo I just kept all my gear inside, and there was more than enough room even with all my climbing gear taking up a substantial amount of space.

I would highly recommend it for any kind of camping other than ultralight backpacking. It's light, but not that light. I'd be perfectly happy using it for something like a long BWCA trip where weight is a concern, but not so much so that I start counting ounces.

Great Tent

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

My girlfriend and I purchased this tent in April 2013 with the intent to use it back country camping.

Just last weekend we were caught in a severe thunderstorm in Riding Mountain National Park in Manitoba, and hid in the tent until it passed us over. The tent stayed almost entirely leak free, a couple small leaks where the fly has velcro to add some strength by attaching to the poles (they're not necessary for set-up). These leaks could and will easily be solved with some seam sealant from MEC when I head to Calgary this weekend.

Other than that, the tent is light and incredibly roomy. Easily enough room for two people comfortable with each other and a dog. If the two man is this size, I'd even consider going to a one man for less weight next time.

After the thunderstorm passed last weekend we were able to lay in the tent with the fly off and watch the lightening in the distance and the stars above us, which is the best part about the tent being almost entirely mesh!

For a footprint, I had a hard time finding an ALPS one, so I got the foortprint for MEC's Twin Peaks tent, and it fits perfectly.

Love this tent!!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this tent for a steal off S&C, used it for multiple days of car camping. First time it was just me and the pup, plenty of room for gear and the dog bed. Second time I brought my roommate and the pup and still there was plenty of room. She has a large REI basecamp mattress while I use a Thermarest Prolite, and even side by side they allowed for about 3-4 inches on either side. We are both of average height 5'4" and there was about a foot of space at the bottom of the tent. The tent itself is about 75% mesh which makes for a nice bug tent when out in hot weather and you want to take a nap. However, at night we threw the rainfly on and it still stayed rather nice- not too stuffy and not too cold. Having two doors is awesome , so no one has to climb over the other to get out, especially in the middle of the night. Plenty of gear space if you need it in the vestibule. Comes with a gear locker to place in ceiling of tent for headlamps, meds, phones, and there are mesh pockets in each corner of the tent. The crossbar across the top really helps to make you feel like you're not in a tent but in a giant cave, one can easily sit up without hitting their head on the tent ceiling. Only downfall is the mesh seems a bit thin and there's already a hole from the dog, guess it's to be expected.

PROs: lightweight (5lbs for 2 people?), airy, roomy, mesh screens for hot summer camping, afternoon naps away from bugs, stargazing on your back in your tent, double door access, large vestibule space

CONs: mesh doesn't really seem too durable and it makes up most of the tent body.

Overall, VERY VERY pleased with the purchase.

Love this tent!!
