Changes with the weather so you don't have to.
Alchemy Equipment's flagship technical rainwear piece, the Men's Wool C Change Rain Jacket brings together the refinement of a melange worsted wool outer with the technical performance of a Schoeller three-layer C-Change membrane. Not only is it totally waterproof and breathable, the Swiss-made Schoeller C-Change membrane also adapts to the prevailing conditions by opening up to let moisture vapor escape when temps rise. It contracts as things cool down to more effectively trap warmth, ensuring that you're always at just the right level of comfort. The stretch worsted wool face fabric delivers cozy comfort when things are cold and wet, and the merino blend collar keeps the fit and feel soft around your neck while also fighting funky odors. An adjustable hood and cuffs serve up customizable protection to change with the varying weather, and the multiple pockets provide quick access to essentials you might need close at hand throughout the day.

Nicest soft shell you can buy?
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: Runs large
- Size Bought: medium
This might be the nicest soft shell (I think this qualifies as soft shell at least...) you can buy. The outside is made of this luxurious laminated wool which repels water just as well as my poly jackets, but with a much nicer look and feel. The inside layer works as advertised, insulating when it's a bit chillier, and highly breathable when it's a bit warmer. It's not a space suit, but it does have a pretty wide effective operating temp, though you would need to layer quite a bit when it's cold out.
The cut is pretty relaxed, which is probably my only gripe with this jacket, when zipped up you can use the adjustments in the pockets to tighten up the jacket at the bottom, but it does go down to a bit below my waist so it feels a touch too long. In a downpour I'm sure that's exactly what you want, but from a looks standpoint it would look even better if it was a bit more fitted.
Another thing to note, this jacket is like $800 NZD on alchemy's website. Which is $547... something you might want to take into account.
