    Hiked Big Bend

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 8m

I'm not really a hiker but needed boots for Big Bend trip and wasn't comfortable wearing low cut shoes. The Anhu Montara boot was comfy all day and protected my feet and lower leg. I'm not used to taller boots so they rubbed my left above the ankle, could have been my sock. Great shoes otherwise.

    Honeymoon Hikers!

Got these as a gift for my best friend and her (soon-to-be) husband who will be backpacking in Kauai for their honeymoon. Will update w/ pics and review once they get back! :)

      Nice, comfy boots...

for a season. I purchased these boots last May and have worn them on about 8 day hikes ranging 6-10 miles. They are light, comfortable, and the toe box was roomy enough in a size 9.5 (I usually wear a 9). I also have a narrow foot and heel; my heel fit well, no slippage, without special lacing techniques.

I also wore these boots on a 4-day backpacking trip with about a 40 pound pack. My feet stayed pretty happy. I didn't develop any hot spots until day 4, only one (small) on my left heel, but I suspect it was due to the wool sock I was wearing that day and not the boot. They had pretty good traction on wet granite and provided good ankle support. I was also happy with the water-proofing.

However, my first 8 mile hike this year proves that they are not feeling as cushy as they did last year. Also, the sole was slightly slippery on the half mile of trail that was covered in wet snow.

I'll still be wearing these boots around town, because they are pretty comfy short-term, but I'm shopping for a boot that is designed for longer trips.

much more than purple and pretty

My boyfriend got me this pair of boots as a gift. I love the color and style of it, but they also work great. I wore them all summer long. We went hiking and backpacking. My two favorite things about these boots are their amazing traction and the fact that they never made my feet hurt.

      Not for Wide Feet

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
      • Fit: Runs small

I bought these shoes and I'm usually an 8.5, but I couldn't even get these on my feet, unfortunately. They felt far too narrow for my wide feet. I returned them but I must admit that they were one of the more adorable hiking boots I have ever seen (sorry that I can't comment on their hiking qualities!).

      Best Everyday Boot Thus Far

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size

I've only had these boots for a week, but I haven't worn anything else since I got them. I was in serious need of a hiking boot upgrade, and really lucked out with this choice. I'm still really stoked every time I slip my feet into these boots - they're so comfortable. The boot feels really secure, albeit a tiny bit bulky around the ankle, and the lining and insole honestly just feel luxurious - either I've never owned a really nice, modern, hiking boot or these are some truly awesome boots - or both. ;) These boots are light, breathable and something I don't mind keeping on my foot all day -and I'm typically someone who's always anxious to get shoes off her feet! I'm a big fan of the materials used to make this boot. They're not an effort to wear and don't trap or bind your foot. They're holding up great in puddles so far, and I can't wait for a rainier day to really see how they perform.

Before I chose these, I spent hours in various stores trying on all sorts of boots. After all of that, I can confidently say these boots look and feel well made, and I expect to have a lot of adventures with them!

      super light weight and comfy

I must say I LOVE these shoes!! I've taken them on many of hiking trips and tracking in Europe and they are definitely comfy.. I've climb all the way to the top to Angels landing in Zion National park and must admit that was the scariest hike I've taken and they kept me firm on the ground! No slip! I have not taken them on an extended back pack trip but have plans to do so in a future time so I'm excited to see how they pan out. I have my friend hooked on these shoes and she absolutely love them as well. SOOO super light weight and so well made.

      Happy birthday

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought these for my girlfriend as a birthday gift. She was hiking with me in Adidas running shoes and desperately needed an upgrade. I got her size 7.5 just like the rest of her shoes and they fit great. At first she loved them because in her words "their pretty and purple" but now she loves them for how they work. She wore them when I took her backpacking and had no complaints. She only said her feet got wet once and that day was miserably wet. Coming from the purchaser I thought that they were very well priced compared to some of the competition.

      Happy birthday

      Beautiful, well-made, sturdy

These boots are beautiful, well-made, and sturdy.

Backpacking is a consistent summer hobby, and it was about time I purchased a shoe specific for hiking. I'm a weekend warrior these days, so I wanted something that would hold up on 3-4 day trips and hold a pack of about 35-40 lbs, by no means am I hiking the PCT. Just something to keep in mind.

I prowled the hiking boot selection consistently but couldn't get myself to purchase a high priced boot, then I stumbled across these bad boys. They have all the features I was looking for: leather, waterproofing, Vibram soles, ankle support, all at a great value. And they come in purple which is a major bonus!

The boots have eVent waterproofing, a material I am less familiar with but very impressed. It is very breathable with the ability to shield water.

The boots are on the less-stiff side. They were pretty easy to break in and only left me with a few hot spots, nothing out of the ordinary when breaking in new boots. The fit is true to size, I recommend ordering what you normally wear.

But really, they are beautifully made and highly recommended!

      Beautiful, well-made, sturdy

Really stylish but not for intense hikes

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

The minute I opened the box, I loved these boots. Super comfy and very stylish (because that also matters to me). The first couple of shorter hikes with a light or no pack were fine and no break in period needed.
Unfortunately, the more use they get and on longer, steeper, rocky terrain...they just are not the best choice at all. My feet are tired after 12 miles and there is just not enough support or cushioning for a duration like that. I couldn't imagine wearing them with a heavy pack. It's to the point that I just wear my Montrail Masochists for these longer day hikes instead to keep my feet happy. In addition, these have horrible grip on rocks and can't trust that my foot won't slip because it has many times, which puzzles me with the Vibram sole and all. If you happen to come across a snowfield on a hike that wouldn't require you wearing mountaineering boots, this has absolutely no grip whatsoever....like in a very scary way.

With that being said, for light day hikes and low mileage - these are nice. If you log more miles in variable terrain then I would just suggest getting a different pair that is geared more for that pursuit. Suffice it to say, I am shopping for a new hiking boot.

      Great for day hikes.

Definitely comfortable. Didn't need to break them in. Fit comfortably with a midweight sock. Only have worn them in Northeast - fall and early spring so I can't vouch for how breathable they'd be in higher temps but for the conditions that I wore them in, they worked out well. Got Austral Aura, love the color. Did some rock scrambling and walked along the wet rocks of stream and the grip was good.

      Great for day hikes.

Fit great and love these boots

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

These boots had a great fit as soon as I put them on. I was a bit hesitant about ordering hiking boots online but these have worked out without any problems. I had done some hiking with a different brand of boots bought from another company and had ended up with blisters on my ankles...won't do that again. But, my Ahnu Montara Boots are so comfortable, I'm really glad that I ordered these.

      seems well constructed, didn't fit

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
      • Fit: True to size

I have pretty wide feet, and I read some reviews stating that this boot had a narrow heel and a wide toe box. I usually wear a 7 or 7.5 so I ordered a 7.5 thinking the extra space would compensate for any width issues. I had a fair amount of room at the end of my toes, but absolutely none on the sides. My toes were squished immediately and I knew breaking them in wasn't an option. My heel was just fine though (I think I have normal width heels?) A 7 Wide would be a good fit. An 8 would have been way too long and possibly not wide enough still. I was so excited these are great looking boots with great reviews. BEWARE you wide footed people, my foot is approximately 4 inches wide at its widest point and there was NO WAY my feet were fitting in there without overlapped toes. True to size in length almost perfectly though.

      Magnificent Montara 's

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

These Montara's are everything a hiking boot should be and then some. Comfortable from the get-go, these awesome boots provide ample breathability, great ankle support, a narrow profile, and are extremely well-made.

While excellent for long backpacking trips, these sweet duds also come in some beautiful colors making them great for wearing around town. I picked out the Astral Aura, and they are gorgeous. I typically wear size 7 in women's, and found these fit true to size. I highly recommend, feel free to contact me on our Live Chat service here on the site (Tuesdays and Wednesdays), or leave me a comment here if you've got any questions about these fantastic boots.

      Hi there,

I have taken a few weekend backpacking trips now with my 65 L pack (which is usually very heavy as I tend to over pack), though as it?s still early spring here I haven?t tried them on a weeklong excursion yet. That being said, I haven't had any trouble so far with my Montara's in that capacity, and found that they have pretty awesome ankle support which for me is pretty important as I'm still recovering from an ankle injury.

      I hope that helps!

      Cheers,
      Cory

The best possible hiking investment ever. We do typically 4/5 hour day hikes in the Adirondacks. Terrain uneven. rocky with lots of elevation to come down afterwards. My toes don't jamb. I typically wear a 7.5 but bought an 8 to account for thicker socks and I love these boots so much that I don't take them off all winter. My polar loop reads about 2500/3000 steps a day without hiking and my feet are never tired. I will buy another pair before they change the model. Maybe a few more. Best gift to myself

      best boot ever

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

I love these boots. I have a low volume foot, so finding a good pair that fits can be difficult. I love how light the shoe is, how snug it is and easily adjusted they are. They were super easy to break in. Though I bought them mainly for hiking and backpacking, I wear them almost every day now. They give me great support whether i'm standing at an easel all day or belaying kids for hours. Also, theyre snug enough that I can work some routes and problems in them on those days when its really too cold for climbing shoes. Love. These. Boots.

      best boot ever

      comfortable enough to sleep in

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

These boots are terrific. Fits true to size although my orthotic shoe inserts also fit inside and the boot is still comfortable. Best part (and the reason I purchased this boot) is the sole. Absolutely amazing tread - I haven't slipped even once on ice or snow. No negatives. Just wish I could wear them 24/7..

I tried these on recently and am hoping...

I tried these on recently and am hoping to hear if anyone has any thoughts on the ankle support? I do long backpacks often to locations that require heavy gear and/or I'm alone carrying all of my own stuff. Will this boot hold up on rocky terrain for ankle support? How about waterproofing for damp rainforest settings? Thank you.

I have these and am very happy with them for 10-15 mile day hikes and have used them for winter snowshoeing, too. They are light, waterproof, comfortable and durable. I do think that for longer hikes they are perhaps too light - they have support similar to a trail running shoe rather than a heavy hiking boot.

I am hiking 1000 km on La Via de la Plata (One of the Camino de Santiago routes) my pack will be under 20 pounds and it will be a 2 month walk, some hiking, mostly an old roman road. (Very different from my usual backpacking!) Love the feel of this boot- thoughts on durability?
