Adventure Medical SAM Splint - 2007 BCS

Not having to find splinting material and not having to PAD the splint and not having to worry about your splinting material conforming to the exact length and shape you need is priceless! Get a few of these and keep them in all of your packs.

This is a really good splint. It's lightweight, reusable, radiolucent, waterproof, compact, and versatile. And, at 36" in length, you can use it for basically anything. This is one of those things that you owe it to yourself and your group to buy, but you hope you never have to use it.

This is the type of thing you never hope to need, but should always have in your kit. This is a really light-weight splint that is easy to transport, and useful when needed. Really useful for emergency splint needs where traditional splints would be too difficult to use or transport. Great for those long hikes, backcountry travel, and anytime when your out away from society. Makes putting two sticks together seem archaic.

I've used the SAM splint for over 20 years. Being in EMS, I use it all the time to splint tweaked and mangled limbs.

Basically you fold it in half lengthwise, and then each folded half is folded out approx. an inch above the first fold to create a 'T' when looking from the end. This creates structure for the splint.

From there you can shape it however you need to splint the limb.

I carry 4 of them along with my first aid kit.

These thing work great in any instance you need a splint. The aluminum core makes then super rigid when curved. Plus they have so many uses and are reusable.

This thing is a GOD send for the Boys in our Scout Troop. It is light, rolls up small and very sturdy. Should be required for all scout first aid kits. I am suggesting my troop carry one in every pack. Hope we never need it, but, better to have it and not need it, rather than need it and not have it.

I've carried a Sam Splint around for years. Finally I was on a trip where one of us tore their ACL on a fallen tree cruising though a glade. It was nothing for a pitch and totally unexpected. I sliced the splint in half ( easy with a knife ) and duct taped the two pieces on either side of the knee. It was a long hobble out but that wouldn't have been possible without the splint.

thankfully I have not needed to use this ever, but it is always in my pack. It is light as a feather, and the thin profile makes it easy to stash anywhere.
