will not go skiing with one of these. I pull one out for sumthin all the time. Have used them for dragging gear on top of snow, healing cold friends, and I have added them to my sleeping bag on the real cold ones before.

Don't leave home without one

By:

This little peice of Mylar can mean the diference between shivering all night as the cold zaps all your energy and being able to get back up at first light to make your way back to safety. I've been caught out without a "space blanket" before. If you don;t believe the heating powers of a vapor barrier, go get a large trash bag and hudle with it wrapped around your shoulders, within minutes you should feel the trapped heat building. Added bonus to tthis blacket are the survival instructions and illustrations tp keep you enlightened and entertained.

great ground cover

By:
September 16, 2008

i use this blanket as a lightweight ground cover for backpacking in the sierra nevada mountains for my wife and me mainly to keep our stuff clean. we do not typically bring a tent, we just use this, our sleeping pad, a warm down bag, and a second emergency blanket for rain protection if needed. It holds up great for week long trips. It should be noted that it can be fussy to use in high winds, other than that, these are great to bring along!

Ground Cloth??

By:
November 12, 2009

Having read other review accounts herein where this blanket is used as a light weight ground cloth, I decided to give it a try expecting the product to be more durable then the .99 cent space blankets found at WalMart. After three nights of use with a Big agnes Air Core pad laid on top a lot of the silver coating has rubbed of and permantly attached itself to the black bottom of the Air Core Pad. I'm afraid to use it any loger as a ground cloth as I'm not sure if there is a some sort of reaction going on between the Air Core's 70D nylon bottom.

Good

By:

These are lifesavers as everyone knows ... I use mine as an ultra-lite ground cover to sleep on, as well as having it for emergencies ... I just don't see much physical difference between this and the origional mylar space blankets ... the printed survival/medical techniques are a small added bonus ... I recommend these as long as you're not paying too much more for them, as compared to a regular ol' mylar emergency blanket.

Lightweight groundcloth

I use this sheet as an ultralight groundcloth when sleeping in the open or under a tarp. It is very lightweight and large enough for two.
