I've always wanted to have some of these for emergency situations. They are inexpensive enough here I am stocking up for family gifts for my kids, married kids & grandkids to have available. Good, practical, Christmas "filler" gifts that could be a survival story if ever needed. [I would rather be skiing/snow shoe outings/touring/playing in Hawaii's surf in Dec than shopping - so I work on Christmas all year long]

Anyone ever have experience actually using one of these?

I haven't used this particular brand. I have used the basic mylar emergency blanket in a situation where I grabbed the wrong sleeping bag and didn't realize it until I was making camp. I may have been a little damp from lack of ventilation, but it turned a 45* bag into a 10* bag.

Way back in the day we went to Disney world for spring break. We are from Colorado and used to the cold. The day we went to Epcot we were planning on staying and watching the fireworks that night. Being from Colorado 60 degrees is beach weather for us. Standing out waiting for the park to open we were all fine in shorts and t-shirts while the employees were all bundled up shivering. We didn't bring any jackets with us either. As the day went on we were starting to realize it would be cold and miserable once the sun went down, so we started looking for sweatshirts in gift shops but they were way over priced. We ran over to the mission space gift shop and found some space blankets and each got one. So we wrapped up in them and watched the fireworks display. By that time it was probably down into the low 40's or so and we were as warm as can be. The space blankets kept us warm as well as blocked the wind. Needless to say we were objects of interest of the people around us and many people commented on how great of an idea it was to use space blankets.

Haven’t used and hopefully will never have to. I keep it in the back of my wagon along with my first aid kit and other emergency items. On mountaineering expeditions I carry it in my pack just in case. For the price, why not?

AMK Marketing rep Jordan Hurder breaks down the SOL Emergency and Survival Blankets, showing exactly why these durable emergency shelters outperform traditional Mylar "space blankets" in just about every way.

First, you never want to HAVE to use one of these but if you ever do, they are very good at keeping you warm.

The size is nice. I've used the smaller blankets before and having the larger just makes it easier to wrap yourself up if you need to. I suppose you could fit 2 people in one(like the picture) but I'm 6ft 200 pounds and I think it would be really hard to have 2 people in one.

Other than that, it is pretty much your typical foil survival blanket that keeps you warm when you need to be.
