The Adidas Men's AX 1 Mid GTX Hiking Shoe takes the comfort and durability you've come to trust to a new level. Maybe 'altitude' would be a better word. This waterproof, breathable shoe achieves optimal comfort through the use of a Gore-Tex membrane, and a molded sockliner helps augment a custom fit. Adidas outfitted this mid-cut hiker with a lightweight EVA midsole for targeted cushioning and relief on typical pressure points.

Best Hikers I own

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size

I bought these boots from SAC for a killer price and they have far exceeded my expectations. I was skeptical at first to order a pair of adidas hiking boots, considering their roots are in soccer and running shoes, but so far they have been the best hikers I've ever owned. After 2 years of snowy hikes and summer backpacking trips in unpredictable Colorado weather, they barely show any wear and tear, which is saying something because I'm pretty tough on my apparel.

One negative I have encountered is that sometimes my feet get a little damp when hiking in snow. I'm not sure if its due to water seeping into the boot or if the shoe does not breath well due to wool socks, however, it is not a large problem. Other than that, I can attest to the waterproofing as I have crossed many creeks without any mishaps.

The fit is true to size with a pair of light wool socks. As others have stated, it feels almost like you're wearing a running shoe.

All in all, great hikers, especially if you can get them on sale. I loved them so much, I bought my girlfriend a pair!

Everyone's size must be different

  • Fit:Runs large

When ordering these boots I read all the reviews available, one stating the sizing was too small from what they normally wear. I gambled and ordered the same size as my Merrell's that fit like a glove, or should I say sock. upon arrivial, I found these boots to run large, a good half a size. I was forced to wear them all day at a national motocross event in MI called Red Bud with 2 pairs of socks that was still a little loose, with no lasting damage to my feet.

What I do know about these boot other than sizing, looks great and one of if not the only light 3/4 hiking boot that has a tongue that's higher than the last row of laces, sole performed well on hilly loose rock and some mud, not really sure on breathability, due to 2 pairs of socks in the high 80's

Trying to decide to bless someone else with these and get me a smaller pair.

That's the only thing with mail order

Comfortable lightweight shoe

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

Bought these for day hiking originally but after the first time out I liked them so much that I have been wearing them regularly ever since. Really comfortable, no break in period, and as others have mentioned fits like a sneaker or running shoe, does not feel like wearing a typical boot. True to size for me. Gore Tex waterproof membrane is waterproof and breathable to help keep your feet dry and comfortable.

Love them

I use these shoes mostly in the city; i'm not a hiker. The first time i put them on, i wasn't convinced about how the soles were supporting my feet but by the end of the day, they felt like slippers. They are a light weight, flexible, warm and comfortable shoe, offering a good grip on the ground while keeping your feet dry. They are perfect when temperature gets too cold and damp to wear regular sneakers and they look fantastic. I wear them all the time now and i feel confident i can go off the beaten track.

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

When I put them on at first I thought the fit was awful but they just seemed to melt around by feet in short order. My 9.5 boots were true to size. Looking at them close up and finally seeing the 6 months manufacturers warranty I became very wary. The sole is not the sole of the more expensive Adidas boots and it just seemed to melt away afte the first wearing.

Although I will keeep them I wish I had bought a higher grade Adidas model.

    Pretty good

    • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This is my first pair of hiking shoes. Used to use my sneakers previously. Sole and grip is extremely good and don't have to worry about slipping. I was expecting it to be more comfortable though. After an entire day of hiking, my heels were hurting. Not sure if that was normal.

    Great boot

    • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These boots are great regardless of the price, but when considering their price I don't believe you can find anything better. These shoes give great ankle support and wear like running shoes; providing great flexibility in the foot. I didn't need to break them in before a grueling backpacking trip and no blisters! So far they have held up great.
