Bring along a couple of Accelerade's Accel Gel packets when you plan to spend a couple hours or more exerting. When you begin to get loopy on the mountain bike trail, fall out of the zone on your trail run, or skip lunch during an epic powder day on the ski hill, pull out an Accel Gel packet, rip it open, suck it down, and revive. This Accelerade sports gel contains a small amount of protein along with its carbs, because the protein aids in muscle recovery, and the carbs give you instant fuel to burn.

Bottom Line: Avoid hitting the wall.

I quite like these

I have only eaten these a few times but they are tasty (vanilla), a sort of ricepudding style, Unlike other gels, these feel like they have some substance.

Awful

By: Backcountry.com Sponsored Athlete

these are probably the worst gels on the market. first and most basic to me they don't taste very good. also they are sweetened with high fructose corn syrup. most healthy people avoid high fructose corn syrup, and they should. also the gel package is so wide that it will most likely cut your mouth when consumed.

don't say i didn't warn you.

NOT GOOD

straight up worst gel i've evern had.. and that was before i looked at the ingredients. then i saw man made fake sugar after man made fake sugar. then.. wait for it.. HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP. go look it up if you don't know how bad this is for you. i like the idea of these having a bit more protein in them, but anyone in the biz should know that soy protein is prefered for during exercise and whey is best after exercise.

bottom line: with all the options out there this should be your last choice. i'd say the best two out there as far as energy and ingredients goes are clif shot and hammer gel - and i've tried them all.

Go down smooth

By:
November 28, 2008

After 70 or so miles of running these are the only thing I can get down. They are extra smooth and not as thick as other gels. Bottom line anything is better than being bent over tossing your cookies on the side of the trail. The package is way too wide and can cut the sides of your mouth.

Best Gels on the Market

By:
November 17, 2009

I think as far as performance goes these are the best gels on the market, mainly because they unlike most other brands have protein as part of their formula. All gels pretty much us corn syrup; tis the inclination of this nation. I also believe that some protein is better than no protein. I have found that I have the best recoveries from the use of this gel in addition to the bump in energy.

ok...NOT AS GOOD AS GU

By:
September 11, 2009

I don't love the taste of the drink, but I like the effects, so I choke it down, and the gel is pretty much the same, just harder to choke down because it is so much thicker. I only tried it because BC.com stopped selling GU. Whats up with that!? Please bring back the GU packs I am a climber and marathon runner and if you don't have a LOT of water these are tough to swallow. When I am climbing I like to keep them in my pocket and not have to dig out a water bottle while I am on the go and can pop a GU pack, and lots of time when I am running I like to just slip one of these in my pocket and not carry water, so I will not buy them again. I did not have any trouble cutting my mouth, but the size of the packet was much bigger than the GU and did not fit as well in my little "change pocket" in my running shorts.

Review Title

Ok HFCS, isn't the best but the overall formula is excellent. Great taste and I don't bonk on the sugar high like others I have tried. The 4:1 formula is proven and the 5mg of protien helps. I use when skiing and on hard workouts over an hour. Not sure why anyone would say the opening is wide? it's about 1".

Great flavor, good energy

I tried a box of the Strawberry, and I was pretty impressed! These gels taste great, much better than a few others I've tried. The formula in these gels seems to contain more protein than competitors', which smooths out the energy release, as opposed to a high and crash cycle. I'd definitely recommend them to any endurance athlete.

If you like the drink

You will like the gels - tasty, easy to open, and reviving. The texture of this gel allows you to swallow easily unlike some others.
