How to Buy Women's Trail Running Shoes

Run on Dirt and See the World

Trail running is an escape from running on roads and sidewalks. Trail running shoes come in neutral, motion control, stability or minimalist varieties and offer the added benefits of an aggressive tread pattern, durable upper material, waterproof or water-resistant technology, and rigid rock- or toe-protectors. These shoes are all about traction, protection, and comfort in the unpredictable conditions of the outdoors.

Support:

Trail shoes are split into four categories: motion control, stability, neutral (or cushioning), and minimalist. Some trail shoes offer added medial posting or cushioning for particularly harsh off-road running.

Traction:

Deep treads and toothy lug patterns give you traction in dirt, sand, and over roots and rocks so you can safely run uphill and down.

Protection:

Rigid toe guards, rock plates, and Gore-Tex or waterproof breathable uppers save your feet from impact, sharp obstacles, and wet weather.
