686's Smarty line sets the standards for the outerwear industry, and with the 686 Men's Smarty Truckee 3-in-1 Insulated Jacket it has raised the bar again. A 3-in-1 system designed to incorporate a versatile shell, and an insulated vest, this jacket makes weather a moot point.

Infidry-15 laminate on both the jacket and the vest lays down an insane waterproof membrane that maintains a 15,000 mm waterproofing month after month and wash after wash. Hit-hike-hit in sunny condition without turning the inside of your jacket into a swamp with the help of Smooth Operator mesh gussets and Air-Flo side zips. Sleet in the valley turns into chunky flakes in the mountains; stay dry while you get to high ground thanks to the shell's fully taped seams. Bring what you need with you in pockets specifically designed to hold everything from gloves to a smart phone.

When icy winds and cold, grey skies force others into the lodge, use the three-point connection system to link the 250g insulated vest to the the watertight shell and go headfirst into the elements. The vest's Extendo-Flex hood with Side Stretch panels and 3-in-1, single-pull drawcord makes retaining heat lost through the head as easy as a flip and a tug. Hand Panties Lycra gaiters block cold and snow at the wrists and Death Grip two-way cuffs lock the sleeves in place so you can wind up and huck without your sleeves pulling up. Hike in with just the shell, snap down the powder skirt with PJ-Connect pant-to-jacket tabs, zip the vest on, and slay untouched, backcountry powder. You're always down to ride, get a jacket that is too.

Not Bad

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:Runs large

Pretty good looking combination and very warm. Unfortunately the seams are poorly sewn. For a $350 coat you can do better. I have worn this riding this season many times and don't get me wrong, it keeps the cold out but when stuff is falling out of my pockets because the seams have ripped out, it's a problem.

No removable liner.

This does not have a removable liner. It does have a detachable vest, so it can be worn 3 ways, but not 4. Only 3 jackets in the Smarty line have the removable liner. FWIW. Still sick though. Runs big in the vest. Medium had a lot of area up front in girth. I returned for small, and while I liked the fit of the shell jacket better in medium, the vest fits so much better in small. 5'-10", 170 lbs, athletic build. Small is more of a street fit for my build, and I'd like it if the jacket were bigger in the chest and shoulders. The ideal combo would be M shell, S Vest for my size. Odd the M vest is so huge. Disproportionately so compared to the jacket, but it's not really tailored to a guy my size I guess.
