Get It Before Labor Day Weekend—Order With Free 2-Day*by 5pm MT 9/2/15

Three is a good number.

How many ways can you wear the 686 Men's Authentic Smarty Cargo 3-In-1 Pant? The answer is three, and 686 knows that that is likely two more than any other pair of pants you have. The Smarty lets you rock just the waterproof shell pant for days of spring skiing or hiking laps through the terrain park. It lets you wear just the shoelace-closure microfleece Smarty liner for super-soft and comfortable aprés-ski lounging or late-night drive-thru cheeseburger runs. And it lets you put them both together for those frigid days on the slopes when being both warm and dry is a luxury. You do like luxury, don't you?

Now some brands would say that, if they give you a pant with multiple, versatile wearing options, they can slack off a bit when it comes to performance functionality. 686 is definitely not one of those brands. It gave the Smarty a waterproof InfiDry membrane and fully Bemis-taped seams for protection from wintertime storms, Air-Flo leg vents with Smooth Operator mesh gussets for airy and breathable temperature regulation for when the mercury is up there, and Ghetto Slit leg opening gussets to give your boots ample breathing room. Other features like BOA-compatible leg gaiters, a rugged Horseshoe Hem curved back leg opening, and integration with 686's PJ Connect system combine with an array of pockets to give you all the on-mountain functionality you can handle.

  • InfiDry membrane (15K/10K)

ALL in one! Must have!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I bought these for my husband to wear on a ski trip for our wedding. They're fabulous! All you'd ever want...warm....waterproof...comfortable....versatile! Great fit and the only pants you'll need for any weather. Well made! Definitely recommend!

By far the warmest pants I own in my snowboarding arsenal. The liners are an added bonus. I think I only needed them once while out in Mammoth Lakes, but what a difference. Pants are comfortable and durable. Only flaw I noticed was the button on the bottom opens pretty easily. Brought it to a tailor and had them sew in a small strip of heavy duty velcro to avoid that from happening. Pretty quick fix. Other than that, no complaints. I paid almost full price originally. For $100 anyone looking for a new pair of pants should jump on this immediately! You are crazy if you don't.

you cannot go wrong with these, durable, warm and dry. I purchased the medium, which is a snug fit, but I would recommend the large if you like a more relaxed fit.

Dry and warm

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Height: 5' 4"
    Weight: 160 lbs
    Size Purchased: Medium

Kept me dry and warm when I used them at Brighton, Utah. I wear 34" pants and got the large (34" - 36") because I thought the medium (32" - 34" on the size chart) would be too tight when sitting on the slopes to strap in, etc. I was wrong as the large was way too big, so if you're on the border between two sizes according to the sizing chart, go for the smaller size. I ended up switching for a medium, which is perfect even with an Azzpadz underneath.

The inner liner is really nice and works well on its own. Note that the inner liner zips to the pants at the top, but there's no zip attachment at the bottom. That's fine because you'll probably stuff the liner in your boots anyway.

The pockets are nice, and I especially like the fact that the front hand pockets are side-entry instead of top-entry--they're much easier to access because of this. Top-entry pockets are lame.

The boot gaiters have a velcro opening that allows you to adjust your boas if you got 'em. The hole is pretty much the same size as a boa knob though so when you turn 'em, they snag on the gaiters. I found it was better to stick your fingers through the hole and turn the boa from the inside of the gaiter. Doing this was okay, but I found lifting up the gaiter like everyone else does was more convenient overall.

One thing I really liked about these pants is that it features a gusseted crotch, which gives you plenty of room down under. Not that snowboard pants are generally tight down there, but it did feel like I had more freedom of movement. Also, being an "all-access fit", I had no problems with knee pads (Black Diamond Telekneesis) underneath. Finally, I liked the external waist adjustment--it made it easy to adjust on the fly.

Overall, the pants are great. The only thing I would change is to offer it in a short version. At 5'4", they were a little long but not crazy long.

nice pants

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Height: 6'
    Weight: 165 lbs
    Size Purchased: medium

Super warm with the cozy liners in. Fit around waist is a little bigger than expected but I'm pretty thin at 6' and 165lbs. The large which I ordered first was enormous. These pants have no back pocket on the left side, which is annoying to me as I always wear them on the way to the mountain and that would be my wallet pocket in all my other snowboard pants. Wore three days in a row in CO and didn't have any issues with them staying perfectly dry even when it was snowing like crazy one day. The removable liners are great as emergency crash pajamas but you'd look like a toolbox wearing them around the resort.

Them pants is nice.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

These pants are soft, comfortable, warm, and look good. The inner liner suffices as a first layer, which can't be said for all component pants like this. Very protective, even when it hit -30. Snow and wind want to get all up on my skin? No way, bro. You ain't doing that. I got on these sick pants, so please occupy your time in some other fashion.

Awesome Snowpants!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

These are great pants. The liner are super warm and look great by themselves. So you can take off your snowpants after a log day on the mountain and go straight to the bar in the liners. Great breathability and waterproofness. I wear these when I'm touring and they do really well.

Smarty Cargo Pant

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've never been cold in my smarty cargo pants.
With the liners zipped in, I don't need to ever wear a base layer.
The Smarty Cargo has kept me warm in stormy cold, conditions.
There is plant of pocket space to carry all of the essentials with you.

Super warm!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This pant is amazingly warm and comfortable. This is all you will need for those super cold days. For the ride home you can zip out the liner with the pants still on, or you can run the pants without the liner for the warm days. Definitely for the person that likes convenience and hates buying first layers, or just for those who run cold.
