Description

It's all about versatility.

Be prepared for anything from blower pow, sunny groomers, spring park days in the incredibly versatile 686 Women's Smarty Command Insulated Jacket. With a 3-in-1 design, this jacket can be either worn as a shell, an insulated parka, or just a fleece jacket. Excellent features and killer styling will have you stoked on this jacket all season long.

The shell of the Smarty Command features the Infidry 10 laminate with critical seams taped that offers excellent all-around waterproofing with good breathability for all conditions. Multiple storage pockets, a retractable pass pocket, and an interior media pocket give you all the storage you need at the resort or in the backcountry. To seal out the snow on big powder days, a powder skirt is included that can attach to 686 snow pants for a complete seal. Wrist gaiters keep snow out, and the cuff hook-and-loop closure can be used in two positions; the normal wrist closure, or between the thumb and forefingers to prevent your sleeves from riding up and getting filled with snow. A helmet compatible hood gives you the option of a total seal on cold chairlift rides in frigid wind.

If you get too steamy, unzip the underarm zips and get some breeze. If things get really warm, the microfleece liner is removable so the coat can be worn as just a shell. And if it gets too warm for the shell, the liner can be worn separately as a lightweight jacket. For season-long performance and versatility, you'd be wise to choose the Smarty Command insulated jacket.

Hope it lasts!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I got this jacket because of the 3-in-1 design, high waterproof and breathability rating, powder skirt, armpit vents, and the really pretty blue color-blocking. The warmth is what I wanted and the jacket isn't bulky: I wear a thick merino-wool top with the jacket+fleece on cold, windy days and on warm days, I take out the fleece, keep the wool, and feel great. I imagine the fleece will be nice to wear on spring hikes. The fit is awesome: I was worried it'd be too baggy, like how a lot of snowboard gear is, but it's actually pretty flattering, glad I stuck with the S (I'm 5'4 1/2", 34-26-36). The jacket covers my bum, which is helpful for wet/frozen chairlifts. I love the cuff closure, such a nifty idea, really handy, and the fleece liner jacket has thumbholes. The fleece is thinner than I expected but still really warm. The right pocket of the jacket comes with a detachable goggles cleaning cloth, super surprise. Also in the pockets are elastic strings, which is weird but actually work outs: they're from the adjustable tabs for the bottom of the jacket, they're in the pockets so you don't have loops hanging off the bottom of your jacket. The top part of the jacket is lined with very soft fleece. The media pocket is in just the right place with a hole for headphones to go through. The hood works ok, has a brim on it, I've had difficulty getting it stay on, wearing my helmet, even with my jacket zipped up all the way. The flaps you see on the chest of the jacket are just that, they aren't pockets, yet they're velcroed. I'm not a fan of the big, baggy open pockets inside the jacket: I wouldn't want to store as big of items as the pockets can accommodate while riding so, they've been going unused. Most disappointing, though, is that there was a lot of frayed seams whenever I got the jacket. They haven't affected the functionality and overall the jacket had what I needed so, I kept it. I'll be bummed if it doesn't last at least 5 seasons.

Just received this jacket last week and had to take it on a test hike! First off, I love the colors, very pretty in person. Some of my favorite features are the pass holder, powder skirt, and under arm vents, these are my musts in a snowboard jacket. The fleece liner is a pretty purple color and fits true to size, it's a thinner fleece but the warmth when paired with the jacket is great! Lots of good pockets! I think on most days on the mountain, I will have a thin next to skin layer on, with the micfrofleece liner and the jacket! I will review later in the snow season, these are my first impressions!
