If your ideal day involves slashing turns in the backcountry and wowing your posse with your mad-spinning skills off natural features, than the 4FRNT Turbo Ski has your name written all over it in the color 'hot rod red.'

  • Minimal camber underfoot and an early-rise shovel lets you grease wide open powder turns with confidence
  • Hi-Lite wood core (poplar and beech) creates a snappy yet lightweight composition to support wider skis in soft snow
  • High-performance Isosport Sintered 2000 Base allows you to Mach down the slopes and scare the bajesus out of anyone remotely in your path
  • X4 Dampening System uses laminated elastometric rubber foil for an extra smooth ride
  • Fully wrapped edges add durability for repeated seasonal abuse
  • Q45 technology has each fiberglass layer weaved at a different direction to ensure that your skis have the same flex on day 100 as they did on day 10

So far so good on tele bindings

I got the 168 length because they were on sale and although they were shorter than I wanted, I haven't had any problems in the deep stuff or when I'm charging.

I have Hammerheads on these and use them in bounds at Whistler with no problems. They turn and carve like I'm on rails.

Before the turbos, I had Atomic TM 18s and G3 Rapid Transits. These skis turn the best out of the 3 by a wide margin, which is great considering the turbos are wider then my other two pairs of skis.

I'm 6'2" 190 and I'm torn between 182 and 189. I live in the midwest but buy my skis for the yearly trip or 2 to utah. My current skis are 185 rossi scratch bc's.

I needed to get my order placed today and ended up going with the 189. I'll probably keep my 185 Rossi scratch Bc's as my midwest ski and just pray for snow when I'm out west.

I think the 182 would be fine for your weight/hieght. The 189 is a wider ski (+4mm at waist) with less of a sidecut. As an ex-midwesterner having a versatile ski is important because you never know what the snow condition will be when you travel. If you only planned on using this for powder days, 189 would be the way to go.

Amazing Skis

By:
July 12, 2011

These are the best all mountain skis i have been on, period. I'm 5'10" 150 pounds, and i mounted the 182 VCT turbo 3cm back from true center. The slight tip rocker is enough to keep the tips up in soft snow, even with the "parkish" mount. They are stiff enough to hold it down at speed, with enough give in the tips and tails to make it a relatively playful ski.

If you like to ski all over and take a few laps in the park too, this is the perfect ski for you.

In fact, I was thinking of buying a second pair, mounted at the traditional mounting point with dukes, to replace my Rossi S5s as my non-pow touring ski.

Time for an addition!

After many days of skiing, my turbos remained awesome and still one of my favorite skis, The only problem I ended up having with them was that the 182 length, combined with my more centered mounting point and the slight tip rocker, skied just a little too short for my taste. That said, I did end up mounting them a little more traditionally with dukes, and then, just to be safe, I picked up some 189 Turbos, which quickly became my new all-time-favorite ski.

The 189's just feel a little bit beefier all around. The little bit of extra width underfoot was a definite improvement. I've just never been able to find a ski in the same category that feels as good as these. Eventually (and unfortunately) though, a couple weeks ago the base/edge of the ski began to separate somewhat significantly from the core/sidewall underfoot, to the point where it affected the way the skis skied. I quit skiing on them after that to avoid making the situation worse and getting water in the core and what-have-you and just recently sent them back for warranty. Still one of my all time favorite skis, haven't had any problems with my 182's just yet and I will definitely be exchanging them for another pair of 189 turbos.

Thinking of picking up a pair of these for an all mountain ski

Thinking of picking up a pair of these for an all mountain ski out west. I don't get too many really deep days, so I think these would cover everything I need. I'm 6', 155 lbs. Advanced skier, like to ski everywhere and fast. What size would you recommend? I initially though 182, but I like the wider waist on the 189. Would that be too much ski for me?

Too much ski for you? Depends on your level of expertise. Probably not though. I'm 6'4", 230 lbs and spent a full season on the 182's and absolutely loved them. I spent many many more days on these skis than my K2 Obsethed's. Never again will I buy anything but 4FRNT. Also, think about mounting them with the Deadbolts...

Okay you want a ski that can slay those zombie nazi snow sharks that attack you when ripping the powdah to save the baby pandas all while reciting shakespear's "Othello"... These are the ones that you need to do that . I rode them this year and everytime I rolled up to the lift line the old spice man would look at me and have nothing to say no matter what the conditions were because I was killing it... buy them and be the dragon slayer that you want to be

I am 5'6 a 135 pounds and an aggressive rocky mountain skier looking for something that will shred the backcountry, I am having trouble though between choosing this in the 175cm or the EHP 179cm. Any suggestions?

Both are great skis, when it comes to skiing in the bc. If you like to carve your turns, and are going to be playing off the terrain features (spinning and stuff)I would go with the VCT. If you like to slash/slarve your turns, and are going to be skiing and airing stuff out facing forwards, I would go with the EHP. The main difference I felt between these two skis is the way that they turn. The VCT turns like a GS ski, you can make short or long turns and really arc them out and lay them on their side. The EHP skis like a reverse sidecut ski, where it's really hard to lay them over, most of your turning is going to be sliding out your turns or slarving. The EHP is much better in powder though because of the shape and rocker.

I own 182 turbos, and 186 EHPs. Both skis are awesome, and both are relatively versatile. If the ski is truly for backcountry, especially if you plan on touring, I would shoot for EHPs. However, if you have any more information on the type of skiing exactly that you plan on doing, or if you could name a few other skis that you have or like, I might be able to help you more!

how much rocker is enough rocker

By:
November 4, 2011

First off they shipped really fast for free shipping, but thats probably because i live in Utah. I expected them to have more rocker because of this video below. Its an activated rocker so they don't bow up until you put your weight on them. The tips have a lot of flex but the underfoot is really thick and stiff. The edges came pre-tuned so they are not very sharp but its going to keep the tip and tail from hooking more aggressively in powder. I also like how you can see the wood core and the poly carbon bands through the top sheet graphic. The only thing i am worried about is the base absorbing colored wax's because its white.

Might be too late for this reply to help but...

I respectfully disagree with Ryan. Unless you are just getting into skiing, the 182 would be fine. Keep in mind that the turbos have a big twin tip, as well as slight rocker in the tip. Both of those decrease the running length and make the ski... ski shorter than it sounds. However, I'm sure you would like the 175 length as well, but I think the 182s would be ideal.

Go 4FRNT!

By:
April 6, 2011

I skied these for the first time today, and to sum it up.. I am once again a fan of 4FRNT. I had a bad experience with the EHP's from two years ago, I just found that they didn't excel in any particular area. But after stepping into the 189 Turbos today I would be willing to try anything 4FRNT has to offer. For their size the 189 turbo is super playful, relatively stable at high speeds, and a ski you should definitely add to the arsenal for the days when you want to go play in the pow. Check them out!

Just in case you're still in the market after a few months...It depends on your skill level. If you know that you like the 175, you can't go wrong. However, remember that the turbo has a big twin tip and slight tip rocker (or early-rise I guess), both of which will make it ski a little shorter. That said, if you're a good skier, you might enjoy the extra length of the 182.

For the 4frnt guys, for someone who loves length of the 186 Renegades in its ability to perform in both open areas and tighter spaces such as trees, do you recommend the 182 or 189? Is the 189 a lot of ski in the trees?

Just a follow-up, I went with the 182 and am really happy. They have plenty of stability in longer turns and are fun and playful in tight spots. For a ski to use in crappier snow conditions, the increased agility is nice. I'm happy with my choice and I'd get the same length again given the opportunity.

You should be pretty good on a 189 if you like the 86 Ren. If you are only looking to ski super tight trees with the Turbo you could go to 82, but otherwise go 89.
