Why We Like The Vela Double Quilt
Therm-a-Rest's Vela Double Quilt packs smaller than most sleeping bags and has enough warmth for two backpackers or campers. Its down insulation keeps things as light as can be while still providing a 20F temperature rating, and Therm-a-Rest treated the insulation with Nikwax to retain its lofty warmth in wetter climates.

No down in foot box (literally)
So, I just recently received this quilt and it looks and feels quite nice. Most of the baffles are adequately filled, though some leave a bit to be desired. *Yes, I have shifted the down to even out each baffle* It appears as though each baffle is filled with same fill weight, unfortunately not taking into account the variation in width as it approaches the head/shoulder region. My biggest issue…there is literally no down in the bottom footbox baffle. It feels incredibly drafty when the quilt is pulled gently and that baffle is exposed. It appears as the though it was intended to be the baffle pressed up against a pad/mattress. Regardless, it provides no barrier from warm air escaping from this area. A small amount of down or 3M Thinsulate here would have significantly improved its resilience to cooler temps and overall insulation properties. I presume this is a likely culprit to why others have had experienced mixed performance at cooler temps.

Feels great but not that durable

My wife and I have used this quilt paired with the bidg agnes slx text floor pad and the therma rest coupler sheet. We used it in Iceland this past summer and it was great. Packs down good and feels great. It does rip very easily though. Contacted therma rest with no response. We repaired it and still use it the coldest night we have in it was around 26°F. This quilt needs to stay in the loose storage sack when not in use. As with any down, you need to fluff it good for it to work right. If you leave it in stuff sack it will take a lot of fluffing. If they had contacted me back and offered repair or replacement if give 5 stars. I deducted 1 start durability and 1 Star therma rest customer support We will still use this one but we are going to try the big agnes king Solomon double

Not as warm as it says
The down spreads out weird and it isn't comfortable below 40 degrees.

Light and fluffy
I haven't had it long enough to use it to it's fullest but it's an astounding piece of gear. I would definitely buy it again.

Lightweight and warm
I'm a fan of the Vela Double 20F quilt. We used it for a weekend backpacking trip in the high Sierra at the end of September (mid 30s, low 40s F) and were perfectly warm and not too hot. It's wider than I would like (because the extra width makes it more bulky to pack), but the extra space allows for movement and side sleeping. It's awesome how it attaches to the Therm-a-rest Synergy Coupler sheet (although that material is not the most pleasant to sleep on), and the elasticized foot box helps it stay in place on the sleeping pad. I'm looking forward to testing it in colder weather and glad I opted for the 20F over the 32F.

I love the quilt, but it's not rated properly.
I love this, but it's not rated properly. The bag is well designed with features such as the foot bag and pocket, well built, is light, packs small, and feels nice next to skin. It also allows you to snuggle up with your partner as the obvious selling feature. That being said, it's not accurately rated. I'll admit that I'm a cold sleeper, but the warmth provided from this compares to other zero or +2 bags. For me and my partner the comfort rating feels closer to +5 to +10, and a survival rating could be closer to 0 degrees. Overall this is a great summer and light shoulder season bag, but not much more.

Love it (more of a 35 degree bag)
Love the quilt have maybe 15-20 nights in it. Great for camping with a partner and saving weight. I would not take the bag below freezing without adding a thin sleeping bag with it. It's too drafty for cold temperatures. Could be improved with more fill, as is the fill goes to the sides during sleeping and it needs to be fluffed before use. Totally manageable cons and overall would recommend this as a more comfortable and lightweight option for couples in temperatures down to about 35 degrees.

Warm, spacious, comfy

Man, this thing pairs super well with my mattress (megamat duo 10) for myself and my partner to sleep on. It is very warm when we sleep in my truck bed covered with a topper, and ultra comfy. The foot baffles are great for me as they keep my toes toasty all night. I haven't tried stuffing the stuff sack with it and packing it for a trip yet. I bet it will pack pretty large and not be feasible for backpacking. For myself I see it as perfect for car/truck/camper camping, and possibly international travel with a partner as a backup blanket for any cold place you might stay. Overall recommend this highly for those purposes as two bodies of warmth is better than one any day!
